Wedding photos - Juan and Sarah

Juan and Sarah's wedding was in my home town of Weesp, which is great as I know the photogenic places like the back of my hand. This is when I have to watch out not to take the same photos time and time again. One of the big differences this time was that the river Vecht was iced over, which you can see in one of the photos. It was a cold but sunny day and I took it as a compliment when Sarah said during the photoshoot that she felt like a film star. Juan and Sarah were a great (looking) couple to work with.

Wedding photos - Hugo & Annemieke

My wedding season kicked off on the 16th of January with Hugo & Annemieke from Culemborg. It was a cold and a bleak day generally but that didn't stop us having a great time during the photoshoot at Castle Heemstede in Houten. Hugo is an architect so we were able to take some great shots inside the modern building where he worked. Check out the gorgeous white stairway. Then we moved on to the castle which is in the same grounds. I just love discovering new places and making the most of the the features like spiral stairways and wall decorations. Hugo and Annemieke just received their 40cm square album along with about 600 photos, so they have enough to do this weekend.

Check the middle photo. I just love it when something unexpected happens. We were walking to the railway station in Haarlem when out of the blue this florist spontaneously offered a flower to Astrid. I was walking heavily laden a good bit behind the couple when it happened but I managed to get a string of photos that eventually ended up in their wedding album. This photo has everything you could ever wish for

I love bright vibrant colours so when I saw this green wall of the restaurant where we held the photo shoot for Henk & Elvera, I just had to take some photos against it. The shoot was in the Avifauna bird reserve (www.avifauna.nl) Got some shots with penguins and flamingoes but the wall shots were my favourites. Improvising again, we got some nice shots of Mark & Alice outside the brightly coloured doors of a disco.......(it was a dreary day, so this got some colour in to the shoot)....

Catching the moment is priority 1 during the whole day. Couples nowadays don't want the standard stuff and posing is a bit of a taboe. It's about putting the couple in an interesting location and just letting it happen. The bridesmaids started to peek around the corner at the bride and groom kissing....all I had to do was encourage them to keep looking and compose the shots correctly. You have to nudge spontanity sometimes ;-) Big red Ferraris look good in photos, add a matching umbrella and it's all go. Getting the bride into the big red 'low' Ferrari can make for spontaneous shots!!

As you can see, I'm always in for a funny photo. Check out two of these photos. One at the end of the reception where somebody had finished cutting the cake and just plunged the knife into the cake. Very macabre. And what about the photo of the groom tying his shoelaces on the steps just after the couple get married. He turns away to tie his shoe laces and his new bride gets a kiss from one of the best men. Nice! I'm a photographer and a story-teller! The top photo shows the groom cycling past the hairdressers where his wife-to-be waves as he passes. Sometimes you have to set things up......

Wedding photos - Wouter & Famke

Wouter & Famke were married in Nijkerk on a beautiful summer's day in July. They both married out of their parent's house, so I managed to get photo's of both preparations. Of course Wouter (as are most bridegrooms) was ready in a flash, most of the time being taken up with his tie (as most bridegrooms). The shoot was at an old pumping station in the polder. They are a spontaneous couple as the photos show!

Off to Arnhem, this time. First stop after snapping the preparations was the John Frost Bridge ( a Bridge too Far from WW2) for the first photo shoot and then on to the Open Air Museum. There are so many great places to take photos. The got married in a small church (Zeeuws kerkje) in the grounds. We then moved on to Park Sonsbeek for a buffet meal and family reception. The weather was great and so were J&J!!

This time a wedding near at hand. In Amsterdam. I walked in pouring rain from railway station RAI to the hairdressers to meet Eva and from then on to their very nice appartment quite nearby. It was obvious that Eva was having a ball, she was laughing and enjoying herself so much. Simon turned up in a Citroen Traction Avant from my old friend Johan Hoogland from car-hire firm Total Trip. Simon & Eva had so much humour the whole day, with never a dull moment.

The wedding was held at one of my favourite locations - Hotel Hooge Vuursche in Baarn. We spent the whole day there, so no travelling in between times, just photos, photos, photos! The weather was great and so were Damaris & Michael - a really nice couple and lots of fun! In the last photo, I pretented to be moving some guests away for the photo - Damaris was the only one who had a peek to see what I was up to!!

I've known Cindy & Sander for a few years now and it was just great when I could be part of their wedding! As photographer you get to be with the couple or in their proximity the whole day and enjoy all that's going on. More people should get married and then I'd have more fun!! ;-) Cindy and Sander got married in Amsterdam and we did the photoshoot in the Hortus Botanicus which is a 'big greenhouse filled with plants' if you don't understand latin...... Koen and I know each other from the local photo club where I've been a member for years now and it was a great honour when he asked me to take his wedding photos. Taking photos of a photographer is always a challenge......!! Koen's red mini was all gift wrapped and looking good, so we paraded it round all over the place. All of the photos were taken in Naarden and I especially like the ones taken at the Utrechtse Poort (old gateway to the walled city). Hope you like the photos....Koen and Anneke did....phew....

While we were taking some photos at the Zaanse Schans a policeman on a mountain bike approached us and before we knew it we were surrounded by 6 of them and Sander & Marieke were hand-cuffed. Honestly this wasn't planned!! Really!! Of course we went the whole way, taking a few groups photos and close-ups of the cuffs. Needless to say, these photos found there way into the Album. It's taken too long to get my Blog updated. These couples have long since got their photos and today I managed to update my site. I'm getting round nearly the whole Kroon family what with Thea two years ago, now brother Arjan and in a few weeks Erika will be marrying Peter. Nice to meet them all regularly and always at a party!! :-)

Mike and Viola got married in Huizen and it was a glorious day. We spent some time just wandering around the harbour at Huizen near where the reception was (Kalkovens) and got some nice photos with some interesting angles - which is what I like.

Wouter & Margrieta were married in Bunschoten, a fishing village not much more than a half hour from where I live. We managed to get the preliminaries and photoshoot done before it rained, but some rain didn't stop me from getting great shots of the couple and two family members in traditional costume, passing each other on the harbour side and what do you think shot of the gents with their umbrella's up and me trying to get some cover from the rain and a good picture!! The reception was on the other side of the water in the Eemhof and there were too many photos taken to give you an impression of the party they had!!

Irha & Mirjam - way back in August

Time to update my blog with the Irha & Mirjam's photos. With so many weddings in August & September it takes time to get my blog and site updated. Some day........I'll do it the same week, but until then...... Irha & Mirjam were married in the stately city hall in Haarlem and the church wedding was a short walk for them and their guests, with me running up front ;-) I love the shot of Mirjam and her dad walking briskly up the aisle - colourful green pews and golden ceiling - wow! And there's Irha waiting for his bride........... We took photos where the opportunity was and made a lot of great shots. Super couple....!

Lennaert & Eveline - August 22nd

Unusually, I met Lennaert and Eveline for the first time on August 22, but that didn't make any difference to our interaction and we all had a great time. Eveline models professionally as you can see from the photos I'm posting here. It was really great to be chosen by a model to take her wedding photos! On the way back to lunch we passed an bridge with lots of graffiti and I just had to stop - I asked them to fool about and we got some colourfull photos. I always encourage my couples to just be themselves and try to picture themselves all alone and just to have a ball. Just ignore me and whoever else is round. I've been in some pretty crazy places and it can't be unusual enough for me!!

Not had much time recently to update my blog, so here are some recent wedding photos. I'm now up to the half of my weddings for 2008 - still about 14 to go. Not so many as 2007 but nevertheless still going strong! Next year promises to be a good year - don't know why I say this, just a feeling, but now I've said it so "watch this space!"

Bit back to front with this blog submission. Maarten & Marlies's wedding was my first one this year, but that was way back in March, but nevertheless, here are four of my favourites. You'll notice if you've seen more of my blogs that I like the colour 'red'. How do you like the photo through the windshield of wedding car - which by the way was a white Beetle cabrio. I think she looks like a famous princess! It was a cold day, but we had a great time.

On the day itself while we were looking for a good location we came across a farm-yard which looked really interesting. The farmer gave us permission and before you know it we were in the hay loft taking photos. I disagree with photographers that say that all the photos have to be spontaneous - I've never seen anything like this "just happening", have you? And isn't it a super photo? We also took some great photos near to the Maas (it was the Maas wasn't it?) near Nijmegen - blowin' in the wind.

I always tell the couples that visit me that it's not always a necessity having a castle or something extravagant in the background for nice photos. A red bridge will do, which we passed on the way to the Orchid Farm (it wasn't a totally dry day) and jumped out for a few shots. The Butterfly Farm provided some really good shots of Rebecca and a gigantic B'fly and we dived into a cave for some shots too and I particularly like this black and white one - super couple!

Here are some of the photos I took of Bløf and Van Velzen at the Heineken Music Hall last Saturday evening. The commission was from hansheesterbeek.com and it was an event organised for the Hoogvliet supermarket chain. Now, I'm a fan of Bløf so it wasn't difficult to enjoy myself - I even took out my ear plugs a few times!! Try standing in front of a metre square loudspeaker crashing out 'blauwe ruis". You'll recognize my style - horizontal is boring!!

Well this makes a change from weddings! Out in the rain and mud for a few hours, wellies on, umbrella up and camera round my neck. In one of the photos you'll see runners coming at me and me in the middle. It looks pretty exciting but actually I was standing behind a small tree which was just big enough!! It rained the whole morning and then it really started to pour. Thank goodness for watertight cameras and my good old garden wellies (for those who don't know what these are well their just 'laarzen').

It took some time to get them posted on my blog but here are some of my favourite photos taken at Arjen & Sandra's wedding near Ede in December last year! This was an extra special wedding as both Arjen & Sandra have impaired hearing and a lot of the ceremony and actually the whole day was done in sign language. I had an immensely good time and enjoyed every minute of the day. The album I made was enthousiastically received - this is what they said: We zijn super enthousiast over het album! Geweldige foto’s een prachtig album gemaakt. Het resultaat mag er zijn! Heel erg bedankt voor de super mooie foto’s die je op onze bruiloft hebt gemaakt.

Ben & Ramona's Wedding photos

Time to post a few of Ben & Ramona's photos on my blog! These are a few of my favourites, but you can view a few more on my site. They got married in Hilversum but most of the photos were shot in a hotel in Amsterdam where they spent their honeymoon and at the Cobra Cafe within a stones throw of the Rijksmuseum. During the photo shoot (it was the second last day of 2007, so it was all inside!!) we did nothing but improvise, which was great. Ben & Ramona are a great couple and it was easy taking some great shots of them. We had the advantage of nice lighting, good colours and some Christmas decoration (see site www.thetruelight.nl) - made the most of that, don't you think? If you like the photos - place a reaction! B&R got the photos yesterday and I think there still looking at them :-)

Wedding Photos - Gert & Irene

This week I visited Gert & Irene to hand over their wedding photos and more importantly, their long awaited wedding album! As I was so busy, it had taken longer than I had anticipated, but nevertheless, the moment had arrived! I always get the feeling that it is worth waiting longer for the album than getting it within a few weeks - it's something to look forward to (I hear so often). My wedding abums are full spread open over two pages 60cm x 30cm high. Hand bound covers and the printer is Vakcolor in Limburg which is deep in the south of Holland, between Belgium and Germany. They are a great printing company and have the nicest staff you can imagine.

The same goes for Gert & Irene - we had a great day and I thoroughly enjoyed taking among these shots - among many many others :-)

KLM / Air France Conference - Nov 9th 2007

Yet another commission from 'J.P.Audiovisueel' based in Ijmuiden. This time I was asked to take overview shots of the equipment and lighting and basically anything that grabbed my interest! The Convention Factory is located in Amsterdam and used to be the Stork engine factory (www.thefactory.nl) The conference hall looks like it was hollowed out of a maze of pipes and girders - great atmosphere!

I couldn't resist taking the photo of the KLM airhostess standing at the door - you can almost hear her asking everybody to 'fasten your seatbelts, please'
